Alec Luhn is a journalist and translator who works as supplements editor at The Moscow Times. He has written for The Moscow Times, GlobalPost, The St. Petersburg Times (Russia), the Wisconsin State Journal, Russian Life, Foreign Policy Digest and St. Petersburg In Your Pocket, among others. His work for the Wisconsin Center of Investigative Journalism has been published in outlets including the LaCrosse Tribune, Leader-Telegram and Wisconsin Dells Events. Luhn's reporting has been honored with awards from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association, Milwaukee Press Club, Society of Professional Journalists and UWire.com, which named him one of the top 100 college journalists of 2008. In addition, his photography has appeared in several European and American newspapers and magazines, including the Washington Post.
He graduated with degrees in history, journalism and Russian from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was honored for his academic work with one of three annual Dean's Prizes, induction into the Phi Beta Kappa Society and awards such as the U.S. Department of State Critical Lanugage Scholarship. His academic foci were on international media and Soviet history, in particular Soviet media and cultural history during the zastoi era.
In his free time, Luhn enjoys photography and outdoor sports and plays guitar in a Moscow-based band.
